Willie O'Ree loved playing ice hockey on the frozen ponds of New Brunswick. He dreamed of playing in the NHL, but back then, there were no Black players in the league. Willie faced many challenges, including an injury that left him blind in one eye. But he didn't let that stop him! He kept his injury a secret and trained harder than ever. In 1958, Willie finally skated onto NHL ice with the Boston Bruins, breaking the color barrier forever. He played with speed, skill, and incredible determination. After his hockey career, he dedicated his life to helping young people of all backgrounds learn the sport he loved.
