Tiger Woods, The Golfing Legend

Listen to this story

Eldrick Tont 'Tiger' Woods was born in California and was a true child prodigy. Before he could even read, he was swinging a golf club on national television! His father, Earl, named him 'Tiger' after a brave soldier he knew in the army. Growing up, Tiger faced many challenges, including playing on courses where people of color weren't always welcome. But Tiger let his amazing skills do the talking. With incredible focus and a powerful swing, he won his first Masters Tournament at age 21 by a record-breaking margin. He became the first golfer of African American and Asian descent to win the tournament. Over his career, Tiger won 15 major championships and 82 PGA Tour events. His iconic Sunday red shirt and fist-pump celebrations became legendary around the world. Tiger Woods proved that with intense dedication and self-belief, you can shatter barriers and change the history of a sport forever.
