Long ago, in a beautiful valley, clever Shona builders created a magnificent city called Great Zimbabwe. They worked with huge granite stones, shaping each piece with great care and skill. What makes these giant walls so magical? The builders did not use any mortar, mud, or glue to hold them together! Instead, they carefully stacked the stones like a giant, peaceful puzzle that fit together perfectly.
The majestic stone walls curved smoothly around the land, rising high toward the bright blue sky. High upon the walls rested special birds carved from soft soapstone, watching gently over the quiet kingdom with pride and love. Families walked through the cool stone pathways, listening to the soft rustle of leaves and sharing sweet lullabies as the sun began to set.
For hundreds of years, these amazing towers have stood strong, holding the wonderful history and wonder of the people who built them. As night falls, the ancient stones still keep the soft warmth of the afternoon sun, resting quietly under the peaceful stars.
Now, a sleepy twilight covers the grand city of stone. The birds rest, and the cool night breeze whispers a gentle goodnight to the valley. You can snuggle deep into your warm blanket, feeling safe and cozy. Close your eyes, little one, and dream of grand, beautiful places. Sleep tight.
