A long time ago, in Guinea-Bissau, there lived a very smart man named Amilcar Cabral. Amilcar loved to read and study. He learned all about plants, farming, and how to make things grow. But he also noticed that his people were not allowed to make their own choices, because their country was ruled by outsiders. Amilcar knew that to be truly free, his people needed more than just bravery; they needed knowledge.
He started teaching people in secret. He taught them how to read, how to grow better food, and how to believe in themselves. He told them, 'Hide nothing from the masses of our people. Tell no lies.' Amilcar believed that honesty and education were the strongest weapons against unfairness. He organized a peaceful movement, and even though the struggle was very hard, his teachings gave the people the strength to eventually win their freedom. Amilcar Cabral teaches us that your brain and your heart are the most powerful tools you have.
