A long time ago, in the beautiful forests of Cameroon, there lived a brave man named Ruben Um Nyobe. People affectionately called him 'Mpodol,' which means 'The one who speaks for his people.' Ruben loved his country very much, but at that time, outsiders were telling the people of Cameroon how to live and taking away their freedom. Ruben knew this wasn't right. He believed that the people of Cameroon should be free to make their own choices and build their own future.
Ruben was very brave. He traveled through thick forests and small villages, talking to people and giving them hope. He told them they were strong and deserved to be free. Even when things got very dangerous, Ruben never stopped speaking the truth. Although he didn't live to see the day his country became completely free, his courage planted a seed of hope that grew into independence for Cameroon. Ruben Um Nyobe teaches us that being brave doesn't mean you aren't afraid; it means you stand up for what is right anyway.
