Malcolm X: Connecting the Diaspora

Malcolm X was a fiercely intelligent and powerful speaker who fought for the rights of Black Americans. While he grew up facing extreme hardship and racism in America, his journey of self-discovery eventually led him across the ocean. Malcolm traveled extensively throughout Africa and the Middle East, visiting Egypt, Nigeria, and Ghana. In Africa, he met with presidents and students alike, and he was treated with immense respect. He formed the Organization of Afro-American Unity (OAAU) to specifically connect the struggle of Black Americans with the newly independent nations of Africa. He taught that Black people in America, the Caribbean, and Africa were all one family separated by history. African and Caribbean kids can learn from Malcolm X the importance of speaking the truth fearlessly and the power of Pan-African unity.
