Desmond Tutu: The Smiling Peacemaker

In South Africa, there once was a law called apartheid, which separated people based on the color of their skin. It was very unfair. But a kind, energetic man with a bright, booming laugh decided to change that. His name was Desmond Tutu. Desmond was a teacher and later became a church leader, an Archbishop. He believed that every single person was special and deserved to be treated with love and respect.

Desmond didn't fight with weapons; he fought with his voice, his prayers, and his famous, giant smile. He traveled the world, telling everyone about the unfairness in South Africa and asking them to help. He led peaceful marches, dancing and singing for freedom. Even when things were scary, Desmond always reminded his people to choose love over anger. For his beautiful, peaceful fight, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. When South Africa finally became free, Desmond called it the 'Rainbow Nation' because people of all colors were finally living together in harmony.
